Smart Miles is an auto insurance discount specifically built for low-mileage drivers. If you’re driving less one month, doesn’t it make sense to pay less for auto insurance? With Smart Miles, you have a flexible monthly rate based on your mileage that month.
You will have a base rate (such as $35) and a variable rate based on how many miles you drive. The base rate will be calculated on other factors that usually influence your auto insurance rates such as your age, credit score, coverage limits and driving record. For example, say you drive 500 miles per month and your variable rate is $.07 per mile. This means your variable rate may be $60, putting your total monthly auto insurance premium at $95. This is significantly less than other basic auto insurance policies.
Smart Miles does this by using a device to track the miles you drive, giving you online access to your mileage and your monthly premiums.
After your first renewal, you can also save up to 10% for safe driving behavior. You can also save when it comes to road trips, as only the first 250 miles will count toward your mileage in one day.
How Do I Qualify for Smart Miles Auto Discount?
The Smart Miles auto discount is suited for drivers to drive less than average. If you work from home or have a short commute, or if you have an extra vehicle not often driven, you could qualify for a Smart Miles auto discount. Be sure to ask your insurance agent about Smart Miles and other ways you can save money on your auto insurance policy. Also keep in mind that certain vehicles may not qualify for Smart Miles, such as certain hybrids and diesel cars. Smart Miles is primarily for vehicles manufactured after 1996. Ask your insurance agent about whether or not your vehicle qualifies for this discount.
What Does a Smart Miles Insurance Policy Cover?
An auto insurance policy works the same with and without a Smart Miles discount. We generally recommend that you carry a full coverage auto insurance policy, which is the highest amount of coverage you can have on a single vehicle. Important coverages include comprehensive coverage, collision coverage, liability, medical payments coverage and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.
Be sure to speak with your insurance agent about what coverage you need for your vehicle. If you are going to be driving less, you should pay less.
